Amid the escalating ‘samosa and cake’ controversy, the state Crime Investigation Department (CID) sought to downplay the incident, calling it an internal matter and urging that it should not be politicised. “It’s our department’s internal matter and the government has nothing to do with it,” said Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha, Director General, CID. The BJP, however, has launched a scathing attack, accusing the CID of wasting time on trivial issues rather than focusing on pressing cases.

Meanwhile, the Congress has labelled the controversy a “non-issue” and condemned the BJP for allegedly tarnishing the state’s reputation with “petty” political agendas.

The dispute began on Thursday evening when it was revealed that the CID had verbally requested a report on how snacks intended for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu were served to his security staff during his recent visit to the CID office. A senior police officer noted in the report that the CID personnel had behaved in an “anti-CID” and “anti-government” manner regarding the incident.

Attempting to defuse the situation, DG Ojha clarified that there was no formal inquiry or action taken against anyone involved. “No inquiry has been ordered, no explanation has been sought, and no action will be taken against anyone. People should refrain from escalating it any further and politicising it. It’s our internal matter and it’s not appropriate to use it to target anyone,” he emphasised.

Despite Ojha’s statement, the BJP appears unrelenting, using the controversy to criticise both the state government and the CID. Senior BJP leader Satpal Satti said, “The government has made the state a laughing stock in the country.”

Naresh Chauhan, Media Adviser to the Chief Minister, reiterated that the matter was strictly CID’s internal affair and had no government involvement. “The BJP has no issues left, so it was raising such non-issues,” he asserted.
