On the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Sandeep Sankhyan, media coordinator of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, paid tribute to Nehru’s enduring legacy while speaking to the media in Bilaspur. He described Nehru as the strength of independent India and emphasized that his vision for a developed nation remains relevant even six decades after his passing.

Sankhyan recalled the difficult conditions India faced post-independence, when countries like America and England viewed India as a poor and fragile nation. “There was neither enough food nor clothing, and imperialist forces were ready to strike again,” he said. However, Nehru’s determination and leadership helped India stand on its feet and establish diplomatic and global relationships.

Highlighting Nehru’s contributions, Sankhyan said that the seeds of India’s progress in science, technology, research, politics, and the economy were sown by Nehru. Through his first five-year plan, Nehru initiated the industrial revolution and laid the foundation for agricultural development.

Sankhyan further praised Nehru’s visionary role in establishing institutions like IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, ISRO, and several public sector undertakings. “He gave India the weapon of science, technology, and rationality, surprising the world with blueprints for supercomputers, dams, and power plants,” he added.

He concluded by saying that the country remembers Nehru not just for his political leadership but for the transformative institutions he built. “Thanks to his vision, India today produces some of the finest engineers, doctors and managers recognised globally.”
