The Swan Women Federation conducted a scholarship examination for girls studying in Class V to X at Himotkarsh Government College for Girls in Kotla Khurd village in the district today. Federation CEO Dr Raj Kumar Dogra said that around 500 candidates appeared in the examination.

Chairperson of the federation Subhadra Rani said that their organisation had constituted more than 1,000 self-help groups in the district and about 14,000 rural women were its members. She added that scholarships to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh were given every year to meritorious students on the basis of their performances in the examination.

General secretary of the federation Raman Kumari said that they were also involved in income generation activities. The federation was also processing spices cultivated locally under the brand name ‘Himalayan Swan Spices’. It had so far sold spices worth over Rs 2.75 crore, she added.
