The Swan Women Federation today organised a scholarship exam for girls studying in Class V to X. About 1,000 students appeared in the examination, which was organised at Government College, Kotla Khurd, near Una city.

Federation CEO Dr RK Dogra said on the basis of the scholarship examination, first five toppers from each class would be given an annual scholarship, whose consolidated amount will be about 2.25 lakh. He said the enthusiasm among the young children to sit in a competitive examination after a gap of over two years due to the pandemic was visible during the exams.

Chairperson of the federation Subhadra Rani said the federation derives its name from the Swan river which flows in Una district. The federation is working for the empowerment of rural women for the last nine years through various schemes.

It also runs the Swan Women (Multipurpose) Cooperative Society for its members and its president. She said the cooperative had about Rs 16 crore as savings of the women members and about Rs 6 crore had been forwarded till date as loan to the women members on very low interest rates for income generation activities, education of their children, treatment of family members, purchase of dairy cattle.
