Second death due to scrub typhus has been recorded at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla. Champa Devi (74), a resident of Kotgarh in Shimla district, died at the hospital today.

Champa Devi was admitted to the hospital on August 22. She was found to be suffering from sepsis multi-organ dysfunction syndrome. She also tested positive for scrub typhus.

The woman did not recover despite medical care and died of cardio pulmonary arrest this evening. So far, 176 scrub typhus tests had been done at the hospital and 56 of them had been found to be positive.
