On the occasion, Dr Chaudhary urged all officers and staff to take proper care of their eyes and administered the oath of eye donation to them.
Programme Officer for Public Education and Information, Birbal Verma, provided detailed information about the significance of the Eye Donation Fortnight. He explained that corneal blindness can be corrected through corneal transplantation, highlighting the importance of voluntary eye donation. He noted that millions of people in India suffer from blindness and each year nearly 25,000 to 30,000 individuals lose their eyesight due to various causes.
Verma emphasised that anyone can donate their eyes, regardless of age, use of spectacles, history of eye surgery or other physical ailments. He reassured that the process is completely free of charge and described it as a noble act of service to humanity.
All attendees at the event pledged to donate their eyes and committed to spreading awareness about the cause within their communities.
