Service above self: Rotary Club organises tree plantation drive

In a remarkable display of community service and environmental commitment, the Rotary Club Dharamsala Central, in collaboration with its newly formed Rotary Community Corps (RCC) Sakoh, organised a special tree plantation drive at Jathehar village today. Around 100 fruit-bearing saplings — including lemon, malta and galgal — were planted, promoting sustainability and ecological awareness in the region.

Rotary International District 3070 Governor-Nominee Vijay Sehdev, who was the chief guest on the occasion, applauded the initiative and emphasised the vital role of community participation in environmental conservation. “This drive is a significant step towards a greener future and an inspiration for others to follow,” he remarked. The event was presided over by Club president Nitika Jamwal, who reiterated the Club’s commitment to grassroots service and community engagement.

The programme also marked the first major activity of RCC Sakoh, led by local representative Inderjeet, who welcomed the dignitaries and participants. The event underscores Rotary Club Dharamsala Central’s dedication to empowering rural communities, particularly through the formation of new RCCs at Sakoh and Baghni.

President Nitika Jamwal highlighted the deep-rooted legacy of District 3070, which holds the distinction of founding the world’s first Rotary Village Corps at Ishpur in 1986, under Rtn Kanwar Hari Singh — an initiative that continues to inspire global Rotary efforts.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from senior Rotarians including Rajan Sharma, Ajay Sharotri, Pradeep Katoch, Suresh Kumar, Shalinder Mehta and YP Mankotia, reflecting strong collective spirit and commitment to Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.
