Pathania was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the state-level painting competition organised by the Union Ministry of Power as part of the National Mission on Energy Conservation-2025 here. A total of 2,23,917 children from 4,825 schools took part in the competition.
Pathania said, “Himachal Pradesh has vast hydroelectric power potential and is producing over 12,500 MW of electricity annually.” The state was a leader in hydroelectric power generation in the country had a capacity of around 30,000 MW, he added.
He said that thrust should be on sustainable and balanced development so that future generations did no suffer the consequences. “Today, the issue of climate change is posing a new challenge and developing nations are facing the brunt of it,” he added.
The Speaker said that the endeavour was to promote renewable energy like solar and wind energy.
SJVNL Director (Personnel) Ajay Sharma said that children from 4,825 schools of12 districts in the state participated in the painting competition. “A total of 55 participants each were selected in both categories for the state-level competition which is being held every year for the past 20 years,” he added.
Director (School Education) Ashish Kohli was also present. The participants, who secured the first, second and third place in both groups of the competition, would be eligible to participate in the national painting competition to be held in Delhi on December 11.
In the Group A of the state-level painting competition, Kanishtha Goyal, a student of Chelsea School, Shimla, secured the first place, Arjun of St. Edward’s School, Shimla, secured the second place while Mannat of Government Senior Secondary School, Beejri, stood third.
