In a move to ensure public safety during the upcoming festival season, the Shimla district administration on Monday advised residents to purchase firecrackers only from authorised, licensed vendors operating at designated locations. The administration also warned of stringent action against violators found selling or storing firecrackers without proper authorisation, aiming to curb unauthorised activity in the lead-up to Diwali.

Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order), Shimla, Pankaj Sharma, said the district administration had once again received reports that certain individuals and shops were attempting to sell firecrackers without obtaining the required licences under the Explosives Act, 1884, and the Explosives Rules, 2008.

“It is being reiterated for the information of the general public and all shopkeepers/traders that the sale, storage or distribution of firecrackers without a valid licence is strictly prohibited across the entire district. Random checks will be carried out, and any violation of these provisions will attract stern legal action,” he said.

Penalties may include immediate seizure of unauthorised stock, cancellation of trade licences, and the registration of criminal cases against offenders, he added.

Licensed sellers have also been directed to strictly comply with all conditions of their licences, with similar punitive measures applicable to any breach. The ADM appealed to the public for their cooperation in ensuring a safe, peaceful and environmentally responsible Diwali celebration.
