Shimla DC proposes Rs 100 crore disaster management projects

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced that proposals worth Rs 100 crore would be sent to the government for disaster management under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). He made the statement while chairing a review meeting focused on proposed SDRF projects.

He directed officials to upload three proposals, totaling approximately Rs 100 crore, to the official SDRF portal. The proposals aim to mitigate disaster impacts in vulnerable areas, with further action to begin after receiving official approval.

The first proposal, costing Rs 85 crore, involves the channelization of drains within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation, Shimla. Kashyap emphasized the importance of proper drainage systems to reduce disaster risks during monsoon season. The Municipal Corporation has been instructed to complete the necessary formalities and upload the application swiftly.

The second proposal, with a budget of Rs 9.83 crore, targets the repair of the sinking zone between Lakkar Bazaar and the Ridge. It includes the construction of a rain shelter and a dedicated facility for horses adjacent to the Ridge, ensuring their accommodation below the Ridge.

A third proposal, worth Rs 12 crore, covers 32 urban and rural areas across Shimla district, including Rampur, Nerwa, Kufri, and Chirgaon. It aims to assess the current condition of land and buildings and plan potential developmental activities.

DC Kashyap reiterated the district administration’s commitment to minimising disaster-related incidents through timely and strategic interventions.
