Shimla DC urges women to take lead in combating drug menace
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap attended the district-level celebration of International Women’s Day at Gaiety Theatre on Saturday, where he called on women to step forward in the fight against the growing drug menace in the state.
Speaking at the event, Kashyap emphasised the importance of parents spending more time with their children to maintain open communication and prevent disconnect. He recognised certain tasks are unique to women and urged them to care for their children and maintain continuous dialogue with them, stating it is also women’s responsibility to protect future generations.
Kashyap said this year’s International Summer Festival in Shimla would carry the theme “Drive Against Drugs.”
Reflecting on International Women’s Day, the DC said the occasion serves to discuss the challenges women face that hinder their progress. He stressed it is society’s collective duty to provide every possible support to help women advance.
Kashyap said women play a vital role in ensuring smooth traffic in Shimla, which reflects their strength. Additionally, he mentioned two girls from Shimla recently won medals in international kickboxing competitions. He further pointed out nearly 1.2 lakh women in the state now drive vehicles, including buses and trucks, showcasing their power and independence.
