For the first time in its history, the Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Shimla, one of the premier institutes under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), will be led by a woman director as Dr Manisha Thapliyal assumes the charge here today.

The institute is dedicated to research on conservation and management of forests, biodiversity and forestry-based livelihood enhancement in the Himalaya. Dr Thapliyal has over 27 years of rich experience in the field of forestry research and education.
