In a bid to make heritage more accessible and enjoyable, the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), Shimla, has rolled out a series of thoughtful initiatives to enhance the experience of its visitors.

Among the newest attractions is the “Sunset View Café”, a tranquil corner within the institute’s picturesque campus. Overlooking the rolling hills of Shimla, the café invites visitors to unwind amid breathtaking evening hues — blending the charm of nature with the legacy of colonial-era architecture. It’s more than just a café; it’s an experience that reflects the institute’s spirit of serenity and scholarship.

To make the institute more inclusive and visitor-friendly, IIAS has also initiated the procurement of a battery-operated golf cart to ferry guests from Gorkha Gate to the ticket booking counter. The service is especially aimed at assisting senior citizens, differently-abled visitors and families with children, ensuring comfort without compromising the environment.

Further upgrades are on the anvil — from improved signages and refreshment points to enhanced drinking water and sanitation facilities.

“All these measures are part of an ongoing effort to make every visitor’s experience comfortable, safe, and memorable,” said Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, Director, IIAS.

He added, “IIAS is not just an academic centre, but a living emblem of India’s cultural consciousness. Our goal is to let every visitor experience that legacy.”

The institute also plans to introduce a visitor information centre, a digital guiding app, and eco-friendly practices bringing together history, hospitality and sustainability in perfect harmony.
