The Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) has installed a rate list in a bid to control horse owners overcharging tourists for horse riding at The Ridge.

As per the rate list, for horse riding, owners can charge Rs 50 per child, Rs 80 per adult, and Rs 150 per couple. Owners can also charge Rs 50 for clicking a picture while riding horses. Shimla MC Joint Commissioner Bhuwan Sharma said rates had been decided since 2020. However, many horse owners were charging more than the decided amount from the people. The corporation had been receiving complaints about this, due to which it was decided that the rate list would be displayed, he added. “Tourists as well as the locals will only have to pay the approved rate, and no horse owner can charge more than the decided rate,” he said.

The MC has also warned owners of stern action if they are found overcharging people, defiance of which could also lead to the cancellation of licence of the owner.

Being one of the most popular tourist spot, the Ridge is famous for horse riding. Tourists as well as locals can be spotted enjoying horse riding at the historic location throughout the year.
