Shimla MC to enhance power output in waste-to-energy Bharyal plant

The Municipal Corporation Shimla is set to enhance the power generation capacity of its waste-to-energy plant located at Bharyal village near Shimla. To achieve this goal, the corporation has decided to use the garbage generated by the adjoining panchayats of the town as well as Municipal Corporation, Solan.

According to corporation officials, a proposal for the implementation of this decision has been sent to the state government for approval and further action will only be initiated after the proposal gets a nod.

Beside, the corporation is also working to establish a state-of-the-art biomethanation plant at Bhariyal. The plant to be constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore will convert 15 tonnes of wet waste collected from across the town into syngas (synthesis gas) daily.

At present, around 90 tonnes of garbage is generated in the town on a daily basis. The garbage is sent to the waste-to-energy plant, which is being operated by Elephant Energy Private Limited. The garbage is then converted into electricity at the plant. At present, both dry and wet waste are being processed at the plant.
