The Mayor said that it has been noticed that very few people were applying for attics therefore we will seek clarification on the rules for permission. “We will see whether the facility of kitchen and toilets could be given to them,” he said.

As per the amendments, the option of habitable attic was made available for residential and other uses. For this, a fee is being charged for the habitable attic in each block, while the habitable basement is being counted as an independent storey. In case the attic is to be used for purposes other than residential, the person will have to pay fees 1.6 times more than the normal rates.

For making attics habitable, people are required to pay a fee of Rs 50,000 for up to 40 sq m, Rs 75,000 for 40 to 60 sq m, Rs 1 lakh for 60 to 100 sq m and Rs 1,000 per sq m for areas measuring over 100 sq m.
