Shimla’s budding orators find platform

The BL Modi Inter-School English Elocution Competition commenced recently at Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Shimla. Nine local schools participated in the event.
BCS has been organising the competition for schools in and around Shimla for the past 24 years. Two prizes — Best Speaker and Most Promising Speaker — are awarded to encourage the budding orators.
The participating schools included Auckland House School for Boys, Auckland House School for Girls, Chapslee School, Convent of Jesus and Mary, DAV School (Lakkar Bazaar), Loreto House, Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Sacred Heart Convent, Shimla Public School and BCS, the host school. BL Modi served was a teacher at BCS from 1966 to 1982. He was the head of the mathematics department. He was known for his punctuality and the competition was started in his memory.
