The list of highly-cited researchers from the WSG identifies scientists who have demonstrated significant influence through their publication of multiple papers and have been frequently cited by their peers during the last decade. “Dr Sharma is among 20 researchers from India on the global list of 6,167 top scientists,” said Prof PK Khosla, Vice-Chancellor. Dr Sharma is working on the preparation and characterisation of diverse multifunctional nanomaterials, and their composites, specially focused on their potential applications in environmental remediation and biological field.
Dr Banga selected for Rula award
Dr Chaman Lal Banga has been selected for RULA, Asia Award. He will be conferred with the ‘Outstanding Asian Faculty Award’ under the ‘Asia Education Awards’. RULA is an international award given for scientific innovation and excellence. This award will be given to Dr Banga for excellence in the field of education, society and culture. The Malaysia-based RULA International Award extends this honour in multiple disciplines. Dr Banga is
an assistant professor with Himachal Pradesh Univerity for the last nine years.
Tech varsity signs mOU with NIT
The Himachal Pradesh Technical University collaborated with the National Institute of Technology for development and improvement of quality of training and education here on Thursday. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by NIT Registrar Yogesh Gupta and Anupam Thakur, Registrar of HPTU. Prof SP Bansal, Vice-Chancellor of the HPTU, and Prof Lalit Awasthi, Director, NIT, were present when the MoU was signed. Prof SP Bansal said the collaboration with NIT would help in improving the quality of education as NIT would provide facilities for research and development works to the HPTU students. He said NIT would also help in organising placement seminars for HPTU students.
HPU collaborates with EduSkills
The Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, has signed an MoU with EduSkills, a leading EdTech social enterprise in India, to boost digital skills among the students of over 130 colleges in the state. The MoU was signed in the presence of Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. EduSkills is working in 21 states with state governments, Union Government, skill missions, universities and colleges to bridge the gap between industry and academia. It has partnered with some of the world’s largest IT giants to offer global-level courses and certifications to students.
ABVP pays tribute to Rani of Jhansi
The ABVP on Thursday paid floral tributes to Rani of Jhansi Lakshmibai on her birth anniversary at the HPU. Teachers and other staff joined them in paying tributes. ABVP activists said at a time when atrocities on women were increasing, women should take inspiration from the life of the Rani of Jhansi. The ABVP said the ‘Mission Sahasi’, in which women are taught self-defence skills to handle adverse situations, was inspired by figures like the Rani Lakshmibai.
Constitution awareness activities
The NCC and several other youth organisations are conducting activities to enhance knowledge and information about the Constitution among the public till December 13. Col Suneet Shankta, Commanding Officer, 7 HP (1) Coy NCC Shimla, said various activities such as a quiz on Constitution and fundamental duties, short films and ‘nukkad nataks’ on Constitution were being organised.
