Sikyong Penpa Tsering thanks US legislators for supporting Resolve Tibet Act

Sikyong Penpa Tsering visited Washington DC for a series of official engagements, during which he expressed gratitude to US legislators for their support to the Resolve Tibet Act.

In a press note issued here today, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said that Sikyong had meetings with State Department and White House officials on Tibet-related issues. Sikyong also participated in a closed-door expert roundtable at Brookings Institution, moderated by its China centre director, Ryan Hass.

A reception was organised at the Capitol Visitor Centre to mark the signing of the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act into a law. The reception was attended by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Chairman Michael McCaul, Congressman Jim McGovern and Congressman Joe Wilson.

Sikyong also attended the community celebration of the Resolve Tibet Act becoming law at the Capital Area Tibetan Community Centre and addressed a gathering.

Sikyong said, “I want to extend my thanks to Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. This Bill originated from her office during her tenure as Speaker in 2022.” At that time, Richard Gere was the president of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), he added.

He said, “As Speaker, Pelosi mentioned during her visit to Dharamsala that this was also due to the Tibetan people that this Bill got passed. I am thankful to all the Tibetans in the US, the Tibet Support Groups, Tibetan associations, Tibetan advocates, particularly the younger generations of Tibet, as they are the architects of this Bill.”
