Sissu gram panchayat in Lahaul and Spiti district has decided to stop all tourism-related activities in its area from January 15 to February 28. The decision was taken unanimously by the panchayat, Raja Ghepan Committee, Devi Bhoti Committee, Labrang Gompa Committee, Yuva Mandals and Mahila Mandals of the panchayat.

Decision in view of Halda festival

From January 15, the puja of deities will start in each village of Sissu panchayat. On January 21, the Halda festival will begin in the panchayat. To accomplish the religious ceremony peacefully, we have decided to prohibit tourism-related activities. Rajiv Kumar, pradhan of sissu gram panchayat

Rajiv Kumar, pradhan of Sissu gram panchayat, said, “From January 15, the puja of deities will start in each village of the panchayat. On January 21, the Halda festival will begin in the panchayat. To avoid noise pollution in the area and accomplish religious ceremony peacefully, we have decided to prohibit tourism-related activities in the panchayat area. “Villagers will not install stalls near the Sissu lake to cater to tourists. No service, whether snow activity or any other, will be provided to them. We have informed the Lahaul and Spiti administration in this regard,” he added.

After the opening of the Atal Tunnel on the Manali-Leh highway, Sissu has emerged as a favourite tourist destination in the Lahaul valley.
