Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said that the survey was being conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, to collect socio-economic data, which is used in policy-making and research.

“This survey focuses on domestic tourism expenditure (DTES), collecting information on purpose of travel, accommodation, destination and travel expenditure. This data will help the Ministry of Tourism prepare the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) and the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTOI),” Kashyap said.

He said that trained staff from the District Statistical Office, Shimla, would visit households in the sample villages and wards and collect door-to-door information via an application. “Team members will have official identification cards and authorisation letters and all citizens are urged to cooperate with the survey by providing correct information,” he said.
