Sports hostel approved for govt school in Mandi
The government has given a go-ahead to start a sports hostel for volleyball at Government Senior Secondary School, Sandhol, in Mandi district. The Department of Higher Education has been asked appoint a coach on contract basis, one cook, one helper and a sweeper on an outsource basis to run the hostel.
The government has also given approval to start kabaddi and badminton in the government senior secondary school Sports Hostel, Jubbal. The department has been asked to appoint two coaches and a warden on contract basis and other staff on outsource basis. As many as eight sports hostel are being run in government schools across the state. The opening of a sports hostel in Sandhol will take the count to nine. As many as 105 girls are getting sports training in three sports hostels, while 148 boys are getting training the remaining sports hostels.
In 2023-24 academic session, the students from the schools won 18 medals at the national level.
