Sardar Patel University (SPU), Mandi, commenced its academic session 2025-26 with the inauguration of the ‘Deeksharambh’ student induction programme, held in line with UGC guidelines. The event aimed to orient newly admitted students toward academic, ethical and social excellence.

The programme began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by addresses from eminent educationists Prof Sashi Kumar Dhiman and Prof RL Sharma, both former Vice-Chancellors of Himachal Pradesh Technical University, Hamirpur, who served as guests of honour. SPU Vice-Chancellor Prof Lalit Awasthi presided as chief guest.

In his keynote, Prof Sharma highlighted the importance of knowledge, innovation and ethics, urging students to be lifelong learners. Prof Dhiman called upon them to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills for societal betterment.

Delivering the presidential address, Prof Awasthi described university life as a transformative journey, urging students to stay away from drugs and ragging while embracing discipline, respect and inclusivity. He underlined SPU’s focus on 21st-century skills, industry partnerships, curriculum reforms and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

The induction also included sessions on academic structure, examination systems, student support services and extracurricular opportunities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Karan Gupta, Dean of Academic Affairs. The programme was attended by all Deans, HoDs, faculty members and the newly admitted batch.
