State committed to quality rural education: CM Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring quality education for children in rural areas, enabling them to face future challenges with confidence.

Addressing a delegation from the Himachal Pradesh Government Primary Teachers Association, which met him today and submitted a memorandum of demands, the Chief Minister assured that their issues would be considered sympathetically.

Sukhu said the government was establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in a phased manner across all assembly constituencies to boost the confidence of rural students. He criticised the previous BJP government for “rampantly opening schools without adequate staff or student strength” merely for political gains, adding that such non-viable institutions have now been closed.

Highlighting reforms in the education sector, the Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh has improved its national ranking in quality education from 21st to 5th position, crediting the achievement to the collective efforts of teachers, education staff and the government.

He further announced that 100 CBSE-based schools are being opened in the first phase to enhance educational standards. English-medium instruction has also been introduced across the state, and schools have been given the autonomy to select smart uniforms for students, steps aimed at modernising the state’s education system and bridging the rural-urban learning divide.
