Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today said that internal bickering and grudges nursed by senior police officers against each other and junior officers challenging the authority of senior officers had made the force a laughing stock.

Thakur, while talking to mediapersons after holding a Tiranga Yatraa at Reckong Peo in Kinnaur, said that the manner in which an SP rank officer was levelling allegations against the Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, former Shimla Deputy Commissioner and others reflected the level of indiscipline in the police force. He added that if the state government had nothing to fear, why it was opposed to a CBI inquiry.

Thakur requested Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to immediately hand over the Vimal Negi death case to the CBI, as per the orders of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, so that a fair and independent investigation could be done to ascertain the cause of death.

He said, “The shoddy investigation and levelling of counter allegations by police officers have made the police force a laughing stock. Can people trust such a force that is working at cross purposes.” He added, “It appears that internal bickering and grudges nursed by senior police officers are impacting the functioning of the police force adversely.”

Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma said that he had filed a criminal defamation suit against SSP Sanjeev Gandhi, and a notice had been served on him. Meanwhile, Gandhi at a press conference this morning had made remarks against the MLA. Sharma also questioned Gandhi’s authority who stated that the special investigation team (SIT) would appeal against the High Court order.
