State university enhances IT support for divyang students

Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, is leveraging information technology to support the academic pursuits of divyang students. A need assessment board, headed by Prof Mamta Mokta, Dean Students’ Welfare and Prof Dhirender, Nodal Officer Disability, held detailed discussions with students and experts to identify the requirements of divyang learners. Based on their recommendations, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahaveer Singh directed the provision of state-of-the-art facilities under the RUSA Equity Initiatives.

A special training programme was organised today in a dedicated computer lab upgraded with RUSA funds. The lab has been equipped with advanced software and tools, including Kibo-2, Daisy player, EVOE-11 software, NVDA software and the Saarthi smart assistance aid with artificial intelligence. It also features high-speed internet connectivity and an uninterrupted power supply, enabling students to access online lectures and e-resources seamlessly. The training aimed to empower divyang students to use these technologies effectively. Visually impaired students were also provided with cane sticks to facilitate mobility. Students said they were excited to explore the new gadgets and equipment, which will significantly enhance their academic experience.

The VC said divyang students that the university would continue to introduce innovative initiatives to foster their academic growth.
