Statehood Day celebrations at President’s summer retreat

Event, which will begin at 11 am today, is open to public

Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra, the summer retreat of the President of India, is hosting a cultural event on its premises to celebrate Himachal’s Statehood Day tomorrow.

Such a programme is being hosted by the Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra, for the first time. According to Sanju Dogra, a senior official at the Rashtrapati Niwas, the function, which will begin at 11 am, is open to general public.

“The event will feature pahari songs, a performance by a musical band, nati and a rap battle. Stand-up comedians will also regale the gathering at the function,” the official said. “Besides, we will serve Himachali dham to our guests,” he said.

Apart from celebrating the Statehood Day, the programme is also a part of the outreach programme of the Rashtrapati Niwas. “The Rashtrapati Niwas was thrown open to general public in April 2023. It’s the vision of the President that people should come here to learn and understand our history and heritage,” the official said.

He further said that over one lakh people have already visited the Rashtrapati Niwas since it has been thrown open for the public. “In 2024 alone, we have had close to one lakh visitors from across the country. The number of visitors is gradually increasing,” the official said.
