Mandi, February 9
The residents of Kullu district have demanded an ayurveda medical college at Bajaura in Kullu district. This, they say, is a long-pending demand of the people of the region as this would provide better medical facilities to them within the district.
The previous Congress government had declared that an ayurveda medical college and hospital would be constructed at Bajaura but till date no progress has been made in this direction. The residents of the district are apprehensive that the present government is trying to shift it at other place.
Sadak Parivahan Janhit Vikash Samiti, Kullu, has threatened to stage a protest against the state government if it fails to take the decision in time over this issue.
Satya Prakash Thakur, former minister and president of samiti, said, “It is right of every citizen to be disease free and adopting a lifestyle based on the ancient wisdom of ayurveda can help citizens live a healthier life. The previous government had declared ayurveda medical college and hospital at Bajaura to provide treatment to the patients but till date no progress has been witnessed in setting up this medical college.”
“We urge the state government to come forward to set up this medical college here in Kullu district within a stipulated time, which would provide medical care facilities to the residents of Kullu, Lahaul Spiti and Mandi districts”, he added.
“Apart from this, there are a few other issues related to development in Kullu district, which are hanging fire since long. A fire station was announced at Patlikuhal in Kullu district during the Congress regime to deal with fire emergency cases, but nothing has been done”, he remarked.
“Roads are lifeline of development for any area but roads of Kullu district are in bad condition. The road leading to Manikaran and Barshaini area is narrow and need to be widened for smooth flow of traffic. We urge the state government to widen this road as this would play crucial role in reducing road accidents and boost tourism in Manikaran valley”, he added.
“We have decided to stage a massive protest on all these burning issues on March 7 if the state government fails to pay heed to our demands”, said Thakur.
