Story-reading event in Chamba

The Chamba unit of the Women Writers Association organised the 10th edition of the state-level short story-reading series through virtual mode. Renowned literary figure and social worker, Raj Bharati Sharma, graced the event as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Dr Rita Singh, the state president and founder of the Women’s Writers Association. Four selected short story writers — Daljeet Kaur (Kangra), Pratibha Sharma (Bilaspur), Kavya Sharma (Kangra) and Vandana Sharma Saroj (Mandi) — from different districts participated in the event.

Dr Kavita Bijalwan, president of the Chamba Women Writers Association, conducted the programme. Chamba’s renowned writer Rekha Gakkad shared her thoughts on Guru Purnima.

The participants read out their short stories, which were highly appreciated by the virtual audience. Chief guest Raj Bharati Sharma lauded the initiative and congratulated the association for this effort. She also outlined the development of Hindi literature and shared a self-written short story.

In her presidential address, Dr Rita Singh analysed the stories presented by the participants, highlighting their social, spiritual and practical aspects. She emphasised that these short stories reflect the events occurring in society and asserted that literature has the power to transform the societal structure in any desired direction. She urged everyone to play a significant role in advancing their surroundings, state and nation. Dr Singh also enlightened the attendees about the objectives and activities of the association.

Dr Kavita Bijalwan, president of the Chamba unit, announced that the stories narrated by the participants would be compiled and published soon. She mentioned that some writers had already submitted their works. She added that once all submissions were received, the publication process would begin.
