Student leaders sworn in at HPU, vow to foster harmony, excellence

Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Vice-Chancellor Mahavir Singh presided over the oath-taking ceremony of the Central Students’ Association on Monday and urged the newly elected representatives to work collectively for the overall development of the university.

Anchan Dharmaik of the Department of Psychology took the oath as president, while Palak Dharma of the Department of Zoology was sworn in as vice-president of the association. Sakshay Sharma assumed charge as general secretary and Taniya Tyagi of the Department of Human Sciences as joint secretary of the association.

The representatives of 88 university departments were administered oath by Prof BK Shivram, Dean of Studies, and Prof Mamta Mokta, Dean of Students’ Welfare. The association includes 24 elected men and 64 elected women representatives.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new office-bearers and encouraged students to participate actively in academic, co-curricular and extension activities. He said that leaders emerging from the university had made noteworthy contributions at both national and state levels.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Rajinder Verma also extended his best wishes to the new team, emphasising the importance of fostering harmony and improving communication between students and the administration. “The association plays a vital role in strengthening dialogue and raising the educational standards of the university,” he added.

Chief Adviser to the association and Dean of Students’ Welfare Mamta Mokta expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and assured of continued support to ensure active student participation in university activities. The students’ association president also shared her vision and reaffirmed her commitment to student welfare. In addition to the oath ceremony, 25 students participated in a declamation competition on the theme “Youth in Action for Promoting Gender Equality in Society”, organised under the university’s gender sensitisation programme by the Department of Public Administration in collaboration with the Students’ Welfare Office and the students’ association.

Manvir Singh Bhatia of the Department of Chemistry secured the first position, while Ritik Ranwat of the HPU’s Business School and Yash Dixit of the Department of Laws claimed the second and third positions, respectively.
