Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary here yesterday.

Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas is observed on Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary to honour her enduring legacy. A function was held on The Ridge to pay tribute to the former Prime Minister. The Chief Minister administered the Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas oath to all those present on the occasion.

Sukhu said that Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the nation and dedicated herself to preserving its unity and integrity. “Her unwavering commitment, patriotism and resilience in facing challenges posed by terrorism were beyond description. As Prime Minister, Indira initiated numerous programmes for the uplift and development of weaker sections of society, leaving a lasting impact on social welfare and nation’s progress,” he added.

Sukhu also paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary. He recalled Patel’s pivotal role in the unification of the princely states and appreciated his recognition as the “Loh Purush” of India. Artistes sung patriotic and devotional songs.

Congress state president Pratibha Singh, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal and Congress leaders and workers attended the function.
