Sukhu pushes for new townships near Chandigarh

Directs HIMUDA to explore such possibilities to address the growing housing demand

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today directed the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) to explore possibilities for developing new townships near Chandigarh to address the growing housing demand. Chairing a review meeting of HIMUDA, the Chief Minister assessed ongoing and proposed projects and emphasised the need for time-bound execution.

He reviewed the proposed Jathiya Devi satellite township near Shimla and instructed the department to appoint a consultant at the earliest to accelerate progress. Sukhu said the township would significantly help decongest Shimla and offer world-class amenities. He was informed that TATA Engineering Services Company has prepared a detailed blueprint, designed to preserve the area’s natural aesthetics while ensuring modern infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also approved the release of Rs 20 crore for the proposed commercial complex at Vikasnagar in Shimla to expedite construction. The state-of-the-art facility will accommodate government offices, a shopping complex and other essential services, making it one of the most modern structures in the city.

Reviewing various upcoming housing projects across the state, Sukhu instructed officials to ensure their timely completion for the public’s benefit.

The meeting was attended by Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HIMUDA Vice-Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) K.K. Pant, Chief Executive Officer HIMUDA Surender Vashisht and other senior officials.
