Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is set to preside over the state-level Independence Day celebrations on August 15 at Sarkaghat in Mandi district. Due to inclement weather and disrupted flight service from Shimla, the Chief Minister is travelling to Sarkaghat by road and is expected to reach there by late evening.

There is strong anticipation that the Chief Minister may announce several key development projects for the district, which has been seeking enhanced infrastructure, healthcare and connectivity in recent years.

Additionally, state government employees are hopeful that the Chief Minister may declare special benefits or incentives in his speech, in line with traditional Independence Day gestures.

The Sarkaghat venue is being decked up for the occasion, with cultural performances, a parade and participation from school children and various departments lined up for the day. Security has been tightened and contingency plans have been put in place due to the ongoing monsoon.
