The Mandi police have arrested Javed and Shahid, alias Chatiphata, in a robbery case from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. The case was reported at BSL Colony Police Station, Sundernagar on May 11. Three masked persons had barged into a house at Naya Bazaar in Sundernagar, held the residents at gunpoint and looted jewellery and cash in broad daylight. The robbers had locked the couple in a room before escaping on a stolen motorcycle.

The SP said, “The Uttar Pradesh police had earlier arrested the duo in multiple criminal cases registered against them. The stolen motorcycle used in the robbery has been recovered though the looted money and jewellery are yet to be traced.” She added that an investigation was underway.

A similar crime had taken place at Pulgharat in Mandi district on March 22 when two motorcycle-borne assailants had shot at an eatery owner before fleeing with Rs 6,000, an LED and a CCTV DVR. The police had later arrested two brothers, Azam (20) and Azmal (24), from Muzaffarnagar and recovered a country-made pistol and cartridges from their rented accommodation.
