Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today urged the voters of the three Assembly segments of Dehra, Nalagarh and Hamirpur to exercise their right to franchise in the byelections tomorrow.

Sukhu, in a statement issued here, said that all voters should actively participate in this great festival of democracy and “support the truth” by voting in large numbers.

“The BJP conspired to topple our democratically-elected government and even got three Independent MLAs to resign from the Assembly under a deal. This is the first time in the history of the state that the Independent MLAs sat on a dharna and went to court to get their resignations accepted,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the three former Independent MLAs had imposed these byelections on the public and it was time to teach them a lesson. “In these byelections, the voters have to choose between the truth and falsehood, honesty and dishonesty and I have full faith that they will go with the truth and honesty,” he added.

Sukhu said that there were 38 Congress MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha at present and on July 13, when the results of the byelections would be declared, this number would rise to 41. He added that the Congress government had three and a half years of tenure left and the voters of Nalagarh, Dehra and Hamirpur would choose development and vote for the party.
