Dr Kashmir Singh Thakur, state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has urged the district administration to take strict action against elements attempting to create communal discord in the region. In a letter to the DC, Thakur expressed concern over recent incidents that he said were aimed at intimidating minorities and the labour class.

He pointed out that following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, certain anarchist elements in the country were trying to polarise communities and spread fear among vulnerable groups. Citing specific incidents, Thakur noted that after the attack, some communal elements staged a demonstration outside a mosque in Sujanpur town, raising provocative slogans intended to create fear among minority residents.
