Una district Mahila Congress president Urmila Sharma today condemned the registration of criminal cases against women at Kaza in Lahaul and Spiti for allegedly preventing the entry of Agriculture minister Ram Lal Markanda, who, she said, was leading a motorcade of over a dozen vehicles on June 9 when fear of Covid-19 outbreak in the area was widespread. The area till then did not have even a single case of coronavirus.

Expressing solidarity with hundreds of women against whom criminal cases have been registered, Urmila Sharma termed the step as politically motivated. She said the people were just protesting the entry of outsiders into the valley and when they learnt that the minister was being accompanied by so many people, they staged a protest.

She demanded that all cases registered against women be taken back. — OC
