A participant, identified as Dr Amrish Prakash Nagaraj from Pallamavanatham village in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, submitted academic certificates for enrolment. During routine verification, his documents were sent to Agricultural University and Research Centre, Madurai, for authentication.

The Madurai university administration confirmed that the certificates were not issued by them, nor had Nagaraj ever been a student or employee there. Additionally, the documents bore a fake seal and signature of the Dean.

Following this revelation, Nauni University officials filed a complaint, and a case was registered under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 336(2), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating by personation, dishonestly inducing the delivery of property, forgery, and using forged documents as genuine.
