A government school teacher has been booked for allegedly slapping a 10-year-old student during an oral test in Shimla. The incident occurred on March 24. During the test, the teacher instructed the victim to slap students who were unable to answer the questions correctly. When the student followed the instructions but did not slap hard enough, the teacher reprimanded her and proceeded to demonstrate by slapping her. The teacher then also slapped two other students. The matter came to light when the victim's parent learned about the incident and approached the police. Acting on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the teacher under section 75 (cruelty to a child) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 as well as under section 115 (2) (voluntary causing hurt to someone) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
