The Himachal Pradesh Government College Teachers’ Association (HPGCTA), Mandi unit, urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to implement the seventh pay scale of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the state.

Members of the HPGCTA staged a symbolic protest march here today by wearing black badges and boycotting the classes. The association submitted its memorandum regarding its demands to the Chief Minister through the Principal, Vallabh Government College, Mandi.

Professor Jaswant Thakur, president, HPGCTA, Mandi unit, said, “We welcome the decision of the state to implement the sixth pay commission for its employees. However, the unit upholds the demand for implementation of the UGC-recommended revised seventh pay commission for college teachers.”

“The revised UGC pay scales have been implemented across the country, except three states, including HP. In this regard, the HPGCTA supports the agitation put forward by the Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (PFUCTO) and the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) over non-implementation of the seventh pay scale,” he said.

“We strongly appeal to the state government to implement the revised pay scale for college teachers without any delay,” said Jaswant.
