A seven-member team of the Central Water Commission yesterday visited headworks of the Shahnehar major irrigation project at Sthana village in Jawali sub-division and the Sidhatha medium irrigation project at Riyali village in Fatehpur sub-division of Kangra district for the pilot testing for the seventh minor irrigation census, second census of water bodies, first census of springs and first census of major and medium irrigation (MMI) projects.

Vikas Bakshi, Superintendent Engineer, Nurpur circle, Jal Shakti Department, said the objective of this field visit of the Central team was to collect census data and bring it on one platform at the national level. He said this would help in implementing programmes and management of local water resources so that their utilities could be improved.

The team included Ajay Bakshi, Additional General Director, Priyanka Kulshrestha, Deputy Director General, Anshika Bhatnagar, Deputy Director, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ashwani Shukla, Secretary, Central Water Commission. Officials of state land directorate and Jal Shakti Department accompanied the team. During pilot testing, the team gave suggestions and analysed several errors while suggesting measures to correct them.
