India’s rising ultra-runner Tenzin Dolma, hailing from tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti and currently residing in Palchan near Manali, has brought pride to the nation by clinching a silver medal at the Asia-Oceania Athletics Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand, recently.

Competing in the intensely demanding 100-km ultra-run on November 22, Dolma showcased exceptional endurance and determination, finishing the race in an impressive 9 hours and 18 minutes. Her podium finish has sparked celebrations across Lahaul-Spiti and Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant milestone for the region’s emerging talent in international endurance sports.

Dolma’s journey to the global arena was marked by challenges. Financial constraints had initially threatened her participation in the championship. However, timely support from Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana, who provided Rs 50,000, enabled the young athlete to travel to Bangkok and represent India on the international platform.

Commending Dolma for her stellar achievement, MLA Rana reaffirmed her commitment to supporting talented youth from tribal and remote regions. “Our district has many gifted sportspersons who have the potential to bring glory to the state and the nation. We will ensure they receive every possible support,” she said, applauding Tenzin’s grit and performance.

Tenzin Dolma’s silver medal has ignited joy and pride throughout the district, with local communities, supporters, and sports enthusiasts celebrating her perseverance and historic success. Her accomplishment stands as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the Himalayas.
