Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh here today said that the Theog hospital would be upgraded as a district hospital while the Kumarsain hospital would be designated as an Adarsh health facility to provide better healthcare to the local population.

The minister announced this while addressing the gatherin after inaugurating the Block Development Officer’s (BDO) office at Narkanda in Shimla district.

The minister said that the work on the new BDO office, constructed at a cost of around Rs 4.5 crore, had been completed.

“The foundation stone of this building was laid in 2017 by the then late Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. The construction work faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The three-storey building has been dedicated to the community, enhancing local service availability,” he said. Furniture for the new office would be provided within 15 days, he added.

The minister also announced an increase in the allocation of funds for the construction of Panchayat Bhawans from Rs 33 lakh to Rs 1.14 crore. “Last year, Rs 47 crore was spent on the construction of panchayat buildings, and Rs 65 crore has already been allocated this year. An amount of Rs 2.79 crore has been allocated specifically for the panchayat building construction in the Theog Assembly constituency,” the minister said.
