Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that strict action would be taken against anyone indulging in criminal activities, including those involved in the attack on former Congress legislator Bamber Thakur in Bilaspur on March 14. Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur raised the issue in the Vidhan Sabha.

The Chief Minister said that the matter was being investigated and two of the four shooters involved in the attack on the former MLA had been arrested. “A special investigating team (SIT) was constituted on March 15 and two persons involved in the crime were arrested. They are on police remand,” he informed the Assembly.

The Chief Minister said that the government would take strict action against the accused. He added that police teams were looking for the other persons from Haryana, who were involved in the attack.

Thakur said that though it was after investigation was completed that the reasons for the attack would be known, till then everyone should refrain from politicising the issue. “Till the investigation is underway, it is wrong on the part of the former MLA to make political statements and accuse some people of attacking him. There is an atmosphere of fear among people after the incident,” he added.

The former Chief Minister said, “It is unfortunate that the former MLA had doubted the treatment he was given at AIIMS, Bilaspur. The manner in which he is making statements before the media and naming people is wrong, especially when the investigation in the case is underway.”
