Himachal is likely to witness an intense precipitation activity from October 5-7. A few places are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall. A thunderstorm, lightning, accompanied by gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and hailstorms is likely at isolated places over the state from tomorrow till October 7. The weather department has issued yellow and orange alerts of heavy rainfall for this period.

The monsoon has left the state only about a week ago after causing severe damage. The fresh spell of precipitation will be triggered by an active Western Disturbance, high moisture feeding from Arabian Sea as well as the Bay of Bengal, and other favourable synoptic conditions.

As per the weather department, heavy rainfall/snowfall is likely at isolated places in Una, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Mandi districts on October 5. On October 6, isolated places in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Lahaul-Spiti districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall/snowfall. Shimla, Kinnaur and Sirmaur districts are also likely to receive heavy rainfall/snowfall.

On October 7, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Solan, Sirmaur and Kangra districts.
