Three drown in Mandi and Lahaul- Spiti

In two tragic incidents reported from Mandi and Lahaul and Spiti districts, three individuals, including two children, lost their lives due to drowning. While one fatalities took place in Mandi district and the other were in Lahaul and Spiti district.

In the first incident, a 20-year-old youth drowned while attempting to cross a swollen water stream in Sundernagar sub-division of Mandi district today. The deceased has been identified as Rohit, son of Mangat Ram, a resident of Jandrehdu village Sundernagar. The incident occurred in Jadol Khad, where Rohit was swept away by the strong water current while trying to cross the stream. He had reportedly visited his aunt’s house and was returning home when the tragedy struck.

Local residents contacted the emergency helpline 112, following which a search operation was launched by police from the Dehar outpost, BBMB Sundernagar fire services, and villagers. After hours of efforts, Rohit’s body was recovered near Ratog bridge. His body was sent for post-mortem examination to the Civil Hospital in Sundernagar.

Mandi SP Sakshi Verma confirmed the incident and said the matter is under investigation.

In another tragic case in Lahaul and Spiti district, two children of Nepali origin drowned in a water tank near the Dalang Army camp on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Dipen (10), son of Prakash, and Pradeep (12), son of Vinod. The children had entered the tank for bathing when they slipped into deep water and were drowned. Their parents were working in nearby fields when the incident occurred.

Local residents rescued the children and rushed them to Keylong hospital, where doctors declared them dead. DSP Keylong Rashmi Sharma stated that the post-mortem was conducted and the bodies were handed over to their families.
