The Nurpur district police on a tip-off set up a naka on the inter-state border at Kandwal last evening and stopped a car (HP 24C-0153). The police team searched the car and recovered 39.54 gram of heroin (chitta). Three persons travelling in the car, namely Vivek Choudhary and Ashish of Gharjarot in Jawali subdivision and Lucky of Ghar-Harsar in Jawali, were arrested with the contraband. The police also impounded the car. A case under sections 21, 25 and 59 of the NDPS Act was registered against the trio.

SP, Nurpur, Ashok Rattan said that preliminary investigation revealed that Vivek and Lucky were habitual drug peddlers. Vivek, a panchayat samiti member of Nagrota Surian Block Development Committee (BDC), was earlier arrested in April 2022 in an NDPS Act case and the Kangra Deputy Commissioner had terminated his membership of the BDC.

Four FIRs under the NDPS Act were registered against Vivek (three in Jawali and one in Fatehpur) between October 2019 and July 2023. An FIR under the NDPS Act was registered against Lucky in April 2022 at Jawali police station. Meanwhile, the accused were today produced in a court, which remanded them in police custody.
