As a precautionary measure against flashfloods, the district administration has issued a stern warning to both tourists and local residents to refrain from approaching the swollen Beas and the Suketi. • Local authorities have set up warning signs and barriers along vulnerable stretches of the rivers, urging people to heed to the cautionary measures
  • Tourist resorts and hotels located in close proximity have been advised to inform their guests to restrict access to river-facing areas
  • Rescue teams have been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise due to the rising water level

The alert issued today comes amidst concerns over the rising water levels and the unpredictable nature of the rivers during the monsoon season. In Mandi, known for its scenic landscapes and tourist attractions, many tourists are drawn to the riverside areas for leisure activities and sightseeing.

Om Kant Thakur, SDM, Mandi, stated that the water levels in the Beas and the Suketi had increased considerably, posing danger to anyone venturing too close to their banks. The local authorities have also set up warning signage and barriers along vulnerable stretches of the rivers, urging people to heed to the cautionary measures in place. Tourist resorts and hotels located in close proximity to these water bodies had been advised to inform their guests about the potential risks and restrict access to the river-facing areas until further notice.

Residents living in low-lying areas near the rivers have been advised to remain vigilant. Relief and rescue teams have been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise due to the rising waters.

The Meteorological Department has predicted continued rainfall in the region over the next 48 hours, further heightening concerns about the rivers’ water levels. The district administration has urged everyone to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and to avoid unnecessary risks by venturing close to the rivers.

This precautionary measure by the Mandi district administration underscores the importance of public safety during the monsoon season, when sudden downpour can lead to rapid flooding in river basins. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and prepared to take additional measures as and when needed to ensure the well-being of all residents and visitors in the area.

While Mandi remains a popular destination for tourists fond of natural beauty, the current situation demands caution and adherence to safety protocols outlined by the local authorities.

“By staying informed and cooperating with official directives, everyone can contribute to maintaining safety and mitigating risks during this challenging period of heightened flood threat,” the SDM said.
