Trade unions strike, Parwanoo indl area hit

Manufacturing activities in the Parwanoo industrial area were hit today, as the activists of the Central Industrial Trade Union (CITU) and the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) observed a strike against the ‘anti-labourer’ and ‘anti-farmer polices’ of the government.

The trade union leaders addressed the employees and said they would not accept the proposed Bill where an employer having less than 300 employees could fire workers at will. They said it would not be acceptable at any cost, and demanded its immediate rollback. The employees were being oppressed and made to work for 12 hours, they said. They alleged that the policies of the government were inimical to their interests and supported the corporates.

The All India Bank Employees Federation also protested against the policies of the government. Federation member Ravi Ahuja said that banks were being closed gradually and mergers were taking place. The services of 28,000 workers were not being regularised, he alleged. The protesters said the government should stop interfering in the functioning of banks.
