Trilok Jamwal, BJP Bilaspur MLA, giving political patronage to ‘chitta’ smugglers, alleges Bumber Thakur
Former Bilaspur Congress leader Bumber Thakur, who was shot at by miscreants at his home during Holi celebrations on Friday, claimed that he had been attacked by "chitta" (heroin) smugglers for speaking out against drug abuse in Bilaspur.
While giving interviews to media at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, where he is being treated for a bullet wound, Thakur alleged that Trilok Jamwal, the BJP MLA from Bilaspur, had given political patronage to these "chitta" smugglers.
Rejecting the allegations, Jamwal said the assault was the result of a gang war that had started under the current government in Bilaspur.
"We condemn the incident and do not want to play politics over the issue, but wasn't Bumber Thakur's son in jail for two months in connection with firing in the court complex?" Jamwal said.
"If the attackers are not arrested by tomorrow, we will have a 'bandh' (shutdown) in Bilaspur on Monday," he said. Meanwhile, Thakur urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to take immediate action as the attackers pose a threat to his own life and his family.
He further said that his application for a gun license, recommended by the DC-SP due to the threat to his life, is still pending with the Home Secretary.
